Rain Capes for Cycling |
A cycling rain cape is excellent for touring or commuting.
It is generously sized, for maximum coverage.
In just a couple of seconds, you can slip it on over whatever you're wearing, and you are protected from the rain.
- Easy on and off
- More airflow means less sweat
- Short and wide bell-shape
- Longer front to covers handlebars
- No sleeves, some have attachments for handlebars
- No more awkward rain pants, knees stay dry
- Closed sides can hinder hand signals.
Some have open sides but let more rain in.
- Some have clear plastic windows on the side of the hood for better visibility.
- Not suitable for swimming.
Rain capes for cyclists are quasi-ponchos, smaller and sometimes longer on the front.
They're supposed to go over the handlebars and seat and provide a big waterproof tent with lots of ventilation beneath it.
Elastic loops built into the front of the rain cape that go over your wrists, and in the back there's a waist loop to keep the rain cape in place in windy conditions.
The design allows you to have everything necessary.
A hip tape at the back part prevents blowing up and fluttering in the wind.
With the driver-hand hold loops, one can ride a bike comfortably.
In the breast pocket you can accommodate small items, or pack the rain cape into it.
The breast pocket is often designed to be a belt pannier at the same time.
A volume-adjustable view window hood prevents visual field restriction.
Replace Your Rain Jacket
Some cycling capes are so well designed, you can wear them instead of a rain jacket and enjoy better circulation, even when you're not cycling.
The great benefit of a rain cape versus the traditional rain suit is that the rain cape keeps you dry and ventilated,
whereas in sustained exertion, rain suits tend to build up heat and sweat.
When you ride a sustained distance in a rain suit you still get wet from just your own moisture.

We haven't yet tested the cape above, but it looks great on it's own and brings out your individuality.
An optional hood is available if you really want to stay dry.
